Meet the Team

Hugh Morgan

Hugh is a process technician with a City and Guilds diploma in chemical plant operations out of the UK.

In the early 1970’s Hugh came to South Africa to work at the Natref oil refinery during its startup period after which he operated on the management teams of several SAs used oil re-refining and blending operations becoming the manufacturing manager of Castrol SA, one of the largest lube oil blending operations in SA.

Hugh has over 30 years' experience in lube oil blending during which he has come to believe that such operations should practice sound quality, environmental and HSE standards as core values in their operations. With this in mind he instills these practices in all operations that he is involved in.

Gary Weineck

Gary holds an MBA from Warwick Business School, UK, and focuses on company strategy and optimizing business performance. He has experience in South Africa and the UK, specializing in streamlining companies for success.

Recently, he grew an oil blending business from startup to R12m NPBIT per annum in 18 months.

Gary works closely with clients to define a clear and financially compelling strategy and then aligns all aspects of operations to deliver on that strategy. He operates at all levels of the organization, from boardroom to basement.

We can immediately supply ISO certified blended lubricants ex works, Durban, South Africa. We have a wide portfolio of premium blended products available for immediate client order, as well as the flexibility and technical expertise to develop custom products for our clients. We offer Afmax branded products as well as "white label" custom branded products depending on client requirements. We provide standard formulations that meet international accreditations but can also create blends according to customer-specific requirements. This provides our clients with an effective interim solution while a plant is constructed, or a fast track to a longer-term solution to build and prove the market conditions.

Through this partnership, and our extensive experience and expertise, we can guide and support our clients through all phases of establishing a fully functional turnkey lubricant blending plant, from concept evaluation, business case, to fully operational: -

Through our relationship with our Indian partner, we are also able to offer a selection of quality blending [and related] equipment components to replace or expand existing facilities. Includes: Oil blending tanks, additive dosing tanks, finished product storage tanks; grease cooking kettles, pumps, load cells, automatic valves and control systems, filling lines, boilers, filters, compressors and assorted laboratory equipment.

Technical & Management Consulting

At AFMAX we have over 50 years of senior technical and business experience in the lubrication industry. We work closely with our customers advising on plant, process and product design, with particular emphasis on delivering quality products and operations, meeting world-class standards. From ISO certification, formulations design to laboratory design. We also have extensive experience in general business, management process and strategy development and design to meet business objectives.

Full turnkey re-refining plant

Our fully automated, imported, turn-key plant is developed to process used engine oil and other used industrial oils to its maximum specification output by means of an environmentally friendly, highly automated, continuous process, taking full advantage of Wiped Film Evaporator and high vacuum distillation technology to optimize yield.

Outputs include Light Oil SN150 and Heavy Oil SN 400-500 with several viable by-products including: Light Fuel, Gasoil, Asphaltic Residue and CST Fuel Oil.
